- Experts say the reduced presence is to be expected after a mass emergence year
- Extensive rainfall could also be impacting the cicada population
"If you get wet weather in the winter, or in times that are normally dry, then that can increase the soil pathogens and affect the number that survive,"he said.
"I'm still having ears ringing from last year; it was kind of deafening where I am in the lower Blue Mountains,"he said.
"Yeah, it's really hard to tell because of their unique life cycle,"he said
