- Economic and weather issues have seen the Australian wine grape vintage drop to its lowest recorded harvest in 23 years
- Warm, inland regions have suffered the largest drop in volume down 28 per cent
- A smaller vintage in 2023 could help the local industry draw down on excess wine stored on farms and wineries
"The white crush [in the inland regions] was also down 25 per cent but the average price paid for white grapes was down 5 per cent so the biggest impact was in those warm, inland, red grapes."
"One upside to the cool weather was that it was conducive to producing higher quality fruit,"Mr Bailey said.
"Some of the very large wineries had troubles accessing their vineyards and enough staff in a timely manner —it was just devastating for growers."
