- Women have submitted stories about birth trauma experienced while in Tasmanian hospitals.
- A submission to the inquiry from the Australasian Birth Trauma Association estimated about 770 Tasmanian women experienced birth trauma annually.
- The stories will inform a parliamentary inquiry investigating maternity services in the state.
"The right of an individual to provide informed consent is protected under the law, and it's a very important facet of the law,"she said.
"Decisions are made all the time in hospitals, in emergencies without obtaining explicit consent from a patient,"Dr Gardner said.
"When things go bad, they go extremely bad really quickly and so you're really tasked with making those split-second decisions, life and death decisions."
