Donald Trump headlined a Madison Square Garden rally that began with crude and racist remarks by allies of the former president, sparking a flood of endorsements for Kamala Harris from Puerto Rican entertainers.
Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe later responded to prominent Democrats' criticism of his remarks by saying "these people have no sense of humor".
Later in the rally, Trump spoke repeatedly about his plans to halt illegal immigration and deport migrants, calling for the death penalty for "any migrant that kills an American citizen".
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris spent the day at a Pennsylvania rally, where she appealed to young and first-time voters.
Harris struck an optimistic tone as she campaigned "neighbourhood-to-neighbourhood", calling on voters to "turn the page on hatred and division".
Almost 42 million Americans have already cast their ballots, according to the Election Lab at the University of Florida.
The final New York Times and Siena College poll of likely voters shows Trump and Harris are deadlocked to the end at 48% to 48%.
