- Alex basically only plants during the winter and always puts in very small plants – even seedlings that he's germinated – (at the cotyledon stages), so they can get established before the hot weather comes.
- For their first summer, Alex waters them with a little tube of PVC piping that he puts in the ground next to the plant. He fills that up with water two or three times a week – then after that, they’re on their own. He doesn't use fertiliser or mulch – because 'that’s how they grow in the wild'.
