- 1.A wattle Acacia cognata. There are several forms, 'Green Mist', 'Limelight' or the one Gardening Australia filmed called 'River Cascade'. The stems are lovely and hang down. It forms a rounded bush about 75cm tall, and about a metre wide. It's good for a pot or low hedge - a perfect plant.
- 2.A native grass called Lomandra 'Seascape'. I love the blue green foliage that looks fabulous. It would be terrific in a pot, or mass planted in the garden.
- 3.Coastal Rosemary, Westringia fruticosa. Look out for 'Jervis Gem'. It's a low, rounded shrub, with wonderful mauve flowers. It's a tough, hardy plant.
- 4.Dwarf Sacred Japanese Bamboo or, as it's known botanically, Nandina domestica 'Nana'. It comes from Japan and China and South East Asia originally. It's not related to bamboo and doesn't have that vigorous habit. It has lime green foliage, and is good in a pot. It grows to about 45cm in the garden, is great as a mass planting, and its other attraction is that in autumn its leaves turn red and orange - a highlight for a plant that's as tough as goat's knees.
- 5.Pelargonium peltatum, the ivy leafed pelargonium, or commonly a geranium. Great for a basket or pot, it adds a splash of colour in a courtyard or even on a balcony and is so tough. These plants don't need much water, but in a hanging basket water more than if it's in the ground. The fabulous range of flower colours include pinks, mauves, rose and cerise pinks.
