- Using sharp, clean secateurs, begin by removing dead, diseased or damaged wood.
- Blackcurrants fruit on new season wood and old season wood won’t fruit again. Old season wood is easy to identify, it’s thick and dark in colour. New season wood which is thinner and much lighter in colour. Remove older season stems at the base.
- Finally prune to maintain a round open shape. This will ensure the plant is easy to manage next season.
