- The new seat of Fraser lies west of the Maribyrnong River in Melbourne's west and is a very safe Labor seat.
- Changes to the electorate of Dunkley, based on Frankston in Melbourne's south-east, change the seat from a marginal Liberal 1.4% seat to notional marginal Labor seat on 1.3%.
- Changes to the electorate of Corangamite wipe out the seat's Liberal majority (LIB 3.1% turned into ALP 0.03%). The proposal to re-name the seat Cox was abandoned.
- Significant Liberal seats strengthened include Chisholm (1.2% margin to 3.4%), Deakin (5.7% to 6.3%), La Trobe (1.5% to 3.5%) and McMillan/Monash (6.0% to 7.6%)
- The Liberal seat of Casey is weakened (6.1% to 4.0%)
- The marginal Labor seat of Bruce is significantly strengthend (4.1% to 15.7%)
- Significant Labor seats weakened include Hotham (7.5% to 4.2%), Isaacs(5.7% to 2.3%) and McEwen(7.8% to 5.3%)
- The redistribution slightly weakens the Labor margin versus the Greens in Batman (1.0% to 0.6%) based on the 2016 election but does not otherwise alter contests between the Greens and the Labor and Liberal Parties.
- Four seats are proposed to be re-named, Batman to Cooper, McMillan to Monash, Melbourne Ports to Macnamara and Murray to Nicholls. Visit the AEC website for background on the new names.
